Silence taught me how to listen and see

Silence helped me recognize people

Who change who they are each minute

People who forget why we are here

Silence taught me patience

To endure grief and sorrow

To live happily, to be considerate

and forget yesterday’s distress

Silence changed my way of thinking

Now I accept life

Now I hope for a bright future

Silence brought light to my future dreams

Helped me envision my path

Helped me shape what happens next

Showed me how to help others

Silence gives me power

Reminds me what I have undergone

Reminds me how much I have learned
