The Day Kabul Collapsed

It was ten in the morning
And all was not well
I walked to the street and took a car
I was surprised how many people there were

Everyone was running
the streets were blocked
Shopkeepers were closing their stores
Old, young, women, men were in shock

Everyone was saying the Taliban had attacked
Who could believe it?

The fear was on everyone’s face
The day before everything was fine
who knew Taliban would come to stay?
Who knew they would close the schools,
Jail women in their homes and say
it’s Islamic rule?

The day Kabul collapsed
Our dreams were destroyed.
