Day after day I wonder
Is there any occasion for living

I walk the streets of Kabul asking
will life here improve

In my homeland I have lost so much
philanthropy and composure and succor

The elation of life I lost
Classrooms filled with a big dreams

My hands are cold, legs can’t move
eyes tired, heart stops and starts

My nose detects strange scents as my face touches fog
My lungs absorb dust and fingers are numb

I see children
sleeping on the streets

A long line at the bakery
each night just for a loaf of bread

Women and elders hold their hands out
for coins and clothing

My questions spin as I walk and walk
Will there be farms or schools or shops

a brook for swimming
a view to enjoy

Daily my mind swirling with worries
When will this be finished, and life be renewed
